Auto-immune disorders may induce miscarriages

February 23rd, 2011

Autoimmune diseases are a group of chronic illnesses which are characterized by the body’s immune system attacking its own organs. Common examples of these diseases include Chron’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and ulcerative colitis. More than 75 percent of cases occur in women.

Abnormal autoimmunity affects the entire body and sometimes it can be devastating. In my previous blog, you read about an autoimmune disorder rheumatoid arthritis and its complication, heart attack. In addition, it is also known now that autoimmune diseases can also lead to miscarriage in pregnant women.

According to a new research recently published in the medical journal Autoimmunity Reviews, there is evidence that maternal autoimmunity can cause genetic abnormalities in embryos. These genetic problems are considered to account for about 60% of all miscarriages.

The study determined that maternal autoimmunity itself can increase the risk of genetic abnormalities in embryos. Study authors are encouraging doctors to test women who experience recurrent pregnancy losses for autoimmune diseases as a way to better prevent miscarriages.

There is substantial evidence available which also shows that vitamin D deficiency contributes to autoimmune disease. Vitamin D is a powerful immunomodulator and its effect has already been shown in the prevention and treatment of some autoimmune diseases.

Discuss with your healthcare provider to learn how optimal Vitamin D levels can improve your over all health especially with regards to auto-immune disorders.

Take vitamin D supplements and strengthen your immunity. Try vitamin D10, a supplement which provides 10,000 IU of vitamin D3 in natural pulsed dose.

Vitamin D supplements may protect Obese from dying of flu

February 8th, 2011

A recent study, which will be published in the February issue of Clinical Infectious Diseases, shows that vitamin D may decrease the risk of dying from viral infections like H1N1 swine flu. The research suggested that vitamin D especially benefitted people in the high risk groups like obese.

The study evaluated 500 obese patients with a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or more and showed that these patients were at three fold higher risk of dying from viruses, like the flu, than people with a healthy BMI.

Being obese makes you susceptible to a number of metabolic and infectious diseases. It is also known that obese people are deficient in vitamin D. Vitamin D, being fat-soluble, is absorbed into the fat tissue. Therefore, obese people are likely to have less vitamin D available in the blood.

Vitamin D is a powerful immune-modulator.  Alongwith being beneficial in the absorption of calcium for healthy bones, it is also important to the health of the immune system on a cellular level.

Taking vitamin D supplements may help obese people to optimize their vitamin D levels and increase their immunity. Vitamin D also known to complement weight loss measures like an exercise regime to allow you to shed that flab more effectively.

Vitamin D10 from Synergy Therapeutics Rx is the best available vitamin D supplement. It provides 10,000 IU of vitamin D3 in natural pulsed form. Try Vitamin D10 to optimize your vitamin D status. Click here to buy D10.

Vitamin D supplements benefit tuberculosis patients

January 11th, 2011

Vitamin D helps improve the functioning of our immune system, a well known fact documented by several vitamin D researchers across the world. A recent British study not only validates this fact, but also concludes that vitamin D supplementation enhances clearing of tubercular infection.

The study involved 146 patients with drug-sensitive TB who were randomly and evenly assigned to receive either four oral doses of 2.5 mg (equivalent of 100,000 IU) of vitamin D3 or a placebo at baseline, day 14, 28 and 42 along with the standard antibiotic treatment.

While it took six weeks for the lungs to clear in patients who did not take the vitamin D supplements, it took five weeks for those who took the supplements. Those who had a particular genetic type of vitamin D receptor were even more responsive to the vitamin D3 supplementation and cleared their TB bacteria much more quickly if they received vitamin D in addition to antibiotics.

The study indicates that TB patients may consider vitamin D supplements to raise their vitamin D levels and enhance recovery.

Try Vitamin D10 that provides 10,000 IU of vitamin D3 in natural pulsed daily dose. To know more about vitamin D10, visit our products page.

Vitamin D: Key to normal Gut functioning

July 11th, 2010

Vitamin D has been reported to have an immuno-modulatory role which helps to strengthen immunity and better manage auto-immune diseases like Inflammatory Bower Disease (IBD).  Now, a recent study by researchers at the University of Rochester suggests the possible mechanisms of action. The findings of this mice study suggest that vitamin D receptor is a key to control invading pathogenic bacteria like Salmonella by binding the inflammatory molecules and keeping it from activating other inflammatory molecules.

The researchers have further suggested that the study may also provide a new lead in understanding how microbes in the human digestive tract known as gut flora keep bad bacteria in check and how bacteria might play a role in the development of inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn’s disease or ulceractive colitis.
